Lent: Let’s Try This Again

A couple of years ago, I decided I was going to blog for Lent. The fact I didn’t get very far says a lot about my inner life. I blamed social media. And working too hard. And the political climate. And anything but myself.

I can definitely see a reduction in my productivity, creativity and spiritual maturity since the advent of social media. But it’s my responsibility to do something about it. So here goes.

For Lent, I will stay off the knee-jerk social media sites like Facebook, twitter and Instagram.

I’m also going to give up sarcasm. Well, I’m going to try. I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of irony and sarcasm. My mind and mouth just react. Great for comedy, but poison to your soul if you let it take over. And I feel like God is asking me to make room for joy. Unapologetic, sincere, childlike joy.

So here goes. Forty days without sarcasm. (Yeah, whatever.)
I haven’t gotten the ashes imposed yet. So I’ll let that slide.

Thought: Lent doesn’t have to be deprivation. Think of what you could let go of to make room for?

  1. That’s a great way to celebrate Lent….may piggy back on your idea! Buena Suerte!

  2. Children laugh a gillion times more a day than we do. Their laughter is music to my ears. They aren’t as a rule sarcastic. Neither do they give us looks that could kill. My goal in lent, to be more childlike and less childish. May got bless your Lent. Bob Rubin, artsandletters9.com
